Pre-Treatment Instructions

Preparing for Your Laser Hair Removal Journey

Before starting your laser hair removal journey, it’s essential to prepare your skin properly. Following these steps ensures the safest experience, the best results, and a more comfortable session. These instructions are designed to help your skin respond well to the laser and avoid any unnecessary side effects.

Avoid Sun Exposure & Tanning

For at least 2–4 weeks before your session, keep the treatment area out of direct sunlight. Avoid sunbeds, tanning sprays, and self-tanning products. Tanned or sunburnt skin is more sensitive and may increase the risk of irritation. Always use a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) if you must be outdoors.

No Waxing, Plucking, or Electrolysis

Avoid all hair removal methods that pull the hair from the root for at least 4 weeks before treatment. This includes waxing, plucking, threading, or electrolysis. These methods remove the hair follicle temporarily, which is what the laser targets.
Shaving is allowed and encouraged, as it leaves the follicle intact for the laser to treat effectively.

Shave the Area

Shave the treatment area 12–24 hours before your appointment. This ensures the laser can focus directly on the hair follicle under the skin without burning surface hair. Use a clean razor and avoid shaving immediately before the appointment to prevent irritation.

Clean Skin

On the day of your treatment, make sure the area is clean, dry, and free from products.
Do not apply:

  • Makeup
  • Lotions or creams
  • Deodorant
  • Perfume or body oils

Clean skin helps the laser work efficiently and safely.

Medications

Inform your technician about any medications you are taking, especially those that can cause photosensitivity (e.g., certain antibiotics, Accutane, retinoids). Some may require you to delay treatment to avoid adverse reactions.

Avoid Perfumes & Fragrances

Fragrances can irritate freshly treated skin. Avoid applying perfume or scented body sprays on the treatment day.

Consultation Is Key

Your initial consultation is an important step where your technician will discuss your medical history, skin type, hair growth pattern, and treatment goals. You’ll also receive personalised pre- and post-treatment instructions to ensure the best results for your skin.

Additional Tips for the Best Results:

  • Stay hydrated before and after your treatment.
  • Wear loose, breathable clothing on the day of your session.
  • If you have any open wounds, cuts, or active infections in the treatment area, reschedule your session.
  • Avoid heavy workouts or saunas for 24 hours before treatment.

Why Preparation Matters

Proper preparation ensures:

  • Better absorption of laser energy by hair follicles
  • Reduced chances of irritation or redness
  • Maximum comfort during treatment
  • Longer-lasting, smoother results
